Drip Irrigation Project for Chili Pepper Cultivation in Long An Province, Vietnam

Project Location: Long An Province, Vietnam
Case Background: Chili pepper cultivation is the main source of income for local smallholder farmers. However, the rainy season often leads to crop waterlogging or diseases, and traditional irrigation methods are not suitable for this climate.

Planting Scale: 35 hectares

Climatic Conditions: Tropical monsoon climate, with hot and humid rainy seasons and dry dry seasons
Technical Scheme:

Drip Tapes: 16mm thin-walled drip tapes are laid, with a dripper spacing of 20cm to ensure uniform water distribution.
Rain Sensors: 6 rain sensors are installed, combined with a manual switching valve system, to automatically switch irrigation modes during the rainy season.
Low-Pressure Pump Stations: The system is integrated with 2 low-pressure pump stations. Through the combination of gravity water supply and low-pressure pumps, efficient water conservation is achieved.
Achievements:
Yield Improvement: Chili pepper yield has increased by 15%. The waterlogging issue has been resolved, preventing crop death.
Pest and Disease Control: The drip irrigation system has effectively reduced the incidence of pests and diseases by 20%.
Fertilizer Cost Reduction: Due to the drip irrigation system's precise control over the delivery of water and fertilizers, fertilizer costs have decreased by 20%.
